The history of the club.

The land on which the Club House and Club are situated was gifted by Edmund Stanfield for the building of a Club for Figheldean and Ablington in the early 1920's.

Land registry records do not go back this far and Terry Stanfield does not have any family records to corroborate the exact date of the gifting of the land. Most land exchanges around the Village seem to have been sealed with a handshake at this time as well!

Mr Taff Gold was involved in procuring a Military Hut for the Club building (again we only have local memories) but believe this was in 1924.

For the first 6 months, the Club was teetotal whilst they waited to obtain a licence and the Club was formally registered with CIU on 1st January 1925.

There are some strong memories (including Micky Pennells) that The Club has been operating since around 1922 but after extensive research we cannot substantiate this.
